Riding Attire:
-Long pants required but riding pants preferred
-Boots with a 1/4-1/2 inch heel required.
-Approved Riding Helmet (absolutely no bike helmets) must be worn.
- Riders under the age of 16 must have a parent present for the entire lesson. Please be available in the barn to watch your child and feel free to learn how to groom and tack a horse along with your child to help them move along and get the most riding time out of their lesson as possible. The majority of the brushing and tacking up MUST be done by the rider. When untacking after a lesson and the trainer is in the ring for another lesson, a parent should be in the barn with their rider to help ensure overall safety as well.
Lesson Classifications:
-Beginner Lessons- any rider who is not able to tack up on their own and/or riders who are working on walk, trot, and canter. If rider can groom and tack up on their own, they may come 15-20 minutes before lesson to prepare horse with parent help/observation. Part of the lesson may be basic horsemanship if they are not able to do on their own.
- Intermediate/Advanced Lessons- any rider who can groom and tack on their own and are beginning to jump or able to jump a full course. Riders may come 30 minutes early to prepare the horse for their lesson. If under 17 years old a parent must be present in the barn until the time of their lesson and throughout the lesson.
*Our Working Students will be available for clarification on questions as always. Please be aware that they are there to perform barn work and ensure overall safety. They are not there to give a grooming/tacking lesson or to do the basic horsemanship skills that the rider is responsible for.
Here at Paradox Country Farm, we teach a well rounded horseback riding experience with horsemanship skills included as a requirement. Happy Riding!
Be prepared to come to your lesson regardless of weather for an indoor horsemanship lesson.
Weather Policy:
Weather Policies depend on the season, we go by the Weather Channel App for New London, PA, and there are possibilities of being incorrect in their predictions.
Canceled Lessons due to weather are usually determined an hour before the lesson. Feel free to text or call if you are inquiring about whether a lesson will be held, if it is further out than 1 hour from your lesson, it may not have been determined yet. We post cancellations on our Facebook page, as soon as we know.
Winter - Lessons are cancelled if precipitation is occurring with potential to freeze, usually under 35 degrees. Without precipitation, lessons become "indoor" with a horse care lesson with temperature lower than 30 degrees. If it begins to snow while you are at your lesson, we continue with the lesson unless it effects visibility. Lessons are cancelled due to thunderstorms in any season.
Spring/Summer/Fall - Lessons are cancelled due to thunderstorms. If it is raining, lessons will be held. Light rain we will ride, in heavier rain we have a horse care lesson in the barn.
